The Ideal Man.

I might as well add in my two cents regarding such a man. To do so, I need to go back in time because I trust the intuition of mini-me. My first memorable crush as a schoolgirl was on a boy who knew his multiplications table a smidge quicker than myself. The boy moved away and in time my affection transferred to another. This time the boy was funny. He made me laugh with his many idiosyncrasies. As I matured, my appreciation for boys of all sorts of talents and personalities increased. Being a voracious little reader, the ideal man was seeded in my imagination in the dreamy form of Gilbert Blythe. As time flew by, other characters such as Atticus Finch, Rob Stark, Rudy Steiner, Remus Lupin, Sherlock Holmes, Philip Pirrip, Jon Snow, and many others stole a piece of my heart. For a brief time, any quixotic interests in the male species, sadly, became superficial*. It is "sad" because I knew that the notion was a lie. The idea that the physical appearance of a person is their greatest value is a falsehood. I find that the media likes to promote an ideal image, rather than ideal character (which kids, you really need to read books to find such gems).

Hence, one reason for writing this entry. I share my take on the notion of an "ideal man" with someone other than my secret keeper (i.e. my sister).

In the mind that is always solving for x, the ideal man is as follows:

  • He has George R.R. Martin’s laugh.

  • He is mesmerized and curiously driven by something like a simple box.

  • He appreciates, values, and loves the nerds. Most likely, he is a nerd. (Fun fact Xazmin: Joss Whedon is probably my longest celebrity crush.)

  • He is funny to the point of almost causing an accident.

So what is the point of my list? All have brilliant minds and talents. All are passionately engaged in something. Coincidentally, all the cited men are married. So like the lovely men of fiction, the guys mentioned above are off limits. I am okay with such a predicament because in the very least, I know that there are men who embody such wit, curiosity, and compassion in this world. Most important take away message, these men do not fit the "ideal male image"**! And to that all I can exclaim is "thank heavens!"

*There is a reason why David Beckham gained popularity in America (hint: it is not because of his soccer skills).

**Tim Howard is an exception. He is always the exception.
