Noona Xaz

A few weeks ago, I got mixed up with some addicting stuff. This was stronger than my beloved books. It did a real number on my senses. Of course I blame my sister for getting me hooked. She not only suggested I try it, but she also became a pusher. It innocently started with the following texts one evening as I worked at home watching Netflix...

K-drama pinterest boards are quite accurate.

NoonaKorean word meaning "older sister" used by males related or not, speaking to an older woman or girl. A noona usually finds herself being the object of affection for countless younger guys.

So why is this relevant? Good question. I returned to the lab Monday morning with a bright smile, having lived through six years in one weekend. My lab mates patiently listened to my enthusiastic experience with their beloved and/or familiar genre (k-dramas are huge in China, Vietnam, and other Asian countries). Thai, of course, was most critical of my time management (I didn't carefully review his review that weekend). BUT, he was keenly aware of my new interest that the following conversation happened later in the week...

T: I have a potential candidate for you.
X: Hmm... I'm curious about your matchmaking skills. Tell me more.
T: He's an academic who lives in San Diego. He's Asian. I know you like Asians.
X: Does he look like Lee Min Ho (actor who played Gu JunPyo)? [I couldn't hide the huge grin/hope on my face]

Gu JunPyo (Lee Min Ho) in Boys Over Flowers.
T: No.
T: But he is accomplished (PhD from MIT, MBA, triathlon competitor, blah blah blah... He even showed me his resume, which was bizarre that he had it handy.)
X: How do you know him?
T: I don't. I have to read this paper for class (waving some RNA paper in his hand) and his lab published the paper. I was bored and I decided to learn more about this guy. I'm glad I did. You two would be perfect for each other.
X: Ha ha ha... Oh Thai. He is probably married. I appreciate the high standard you have for me when it comes to men, but I don't think this is a perfect match.

Korean dramas. Such addicting entertainment. As to what this means for my future, I simply await a shirt with the words, "I (heart) Lee Min Ho".
