My secret?

My one-month writing challenge has been overall, a favorable experience. Some days, there are too many topics to cover. Most of those topics require considerable thought and research. In order to meet my quota for the day, I will typically forego those heavy topics for something personal and positive.

Today's post will be different. I have so many questions that need answers. I will share with you my list of topics that guarantee ranting and raving as I drive through LA traffic while talking with my sister (bluetooth friends, I am not a fan of using the phone while driving).  Take note that the numbered points below are merely questions that I can't help but ask. I wish to return to these topics charged with information in the form of facts, accounts, and a more well-informed opinion. This means I need to do the research, hunt through online references and talk with not only experts, but those who are personally affected. I want to hear varying opinion and the defense of those opinions. With all that work, future posts related to these topics may not make it to the blog in the next two weeks! But hopefully, they will! And if not, then in due time.
  1. Why are US military veterans treated poorly? I am referring to not only the healthcare scheduling mess brought to national attention this year, but also to the transition into civilian jobs and life. What is the status of their mental health? How can that be ignored? What improvements can be done to improve their well-being?!
  2. Why is the NFL (National Football League) NOT more pro-active in the healthcare of its football players? As a person who appreciates numbers, the statistics are staggering! 76 out of 79 former NFL players brains tested positive for chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). That is freaking 96.2%!!!! That is unbelievable. Among my many questions, do Rugby and Hockey players develop CTE? (Methinks its possible, but to a lesser degree since those sports don't require repetitive hits to the head). Will there be a difference observed in football players from different eras? (Basically, I need to watch a lot of past games when the attire was less conducive to being hit by a brick wall.)
  3. Why the backlash/where is the ignorance coming from for being a Native American in the 21st century? This is a genuine question that has been reignited following the recent account of Migizi Pensoneau (of the 1491's) when he was invited to the Daily Show with Jon Stewart
  4. What is the deal with US Education? Why are teachers recompensed so poorly? What is the debate on the Common Core standards all about? How might it apply to me?! (Because I think it does even though I have no children to put through the system. I care because younger generations will be responsible for the advancement of current technologies along with knowledge of science, space, medicine, international relations, etc.) What are identifiable problems in US education? How are they being addressed? I suspect this will vary state to state, so I may just focus on Arizona.
  5. US Healthcare. Oh boy. Why is the US Healthcare the most expensive and worst performing? I genuinely want to study up on any proposed solutions. This is probably the one topic that I cannot wrap my head around. It is absolutely ridiculous.
  6. There are more topics that stoke the fire within. Alas, I am exhausted with what has already been written (US healthcare usually sends me over the edge).
Basically, Bruce Banner and I share the same secret.
